A place to belong, and a musical experience like no other at TWHS.
Our students work as one ensemble to create musical and visual performances that entertain audiences far and wide, performing for 35,000–50,000 live spectators every year, and countless more online.
A consistent Bands of America Grand Nationals Finalist, the marching band includes 275+ students in grades 9–12 and rehearses and travels together all fall.

The Season
A year with the marching band
It starts before day one
Summer band begins in late July, the summer before a freshman’s first year. It’s where the show is built and where friendships start.
Friday night lights
The band is a vital part of Highlander culture, performing at every football game and pep rally throughout the fall.
Marching for a title
UIL, Bands of America regionals and super-regionals, and the program’s own Lone Star Preview, all leading to state and national finals.

Director of Bands
Carter Frederick
Carter Frederick directs the marching band and oversees the full TWHS band program, which has remained a fixture at UIL State and Bands of America finals and earned national recognition from the Sousa Foundation.
